Caring for your feet

  • Inspect your feet daily, seek assistance if you identify any cuts, blisters, red, hot, pussy areas
  • Regularly moisturise you feet to avoid cracked skin
  • Have annual foot examinations

Injury Prevention

  • Avoid walking barefoot
  • Avoid using corn plasters
  • Test the water temperature with your elbow before you bathe
  • Maintain good blood sugars to prevent nerve damage (neuropathy)

Chiropody VS Podiatry? Whats the difference?

The vast majority of us will all experience some sort of lower limb problem within our lifetime, so it’s important to know who to go and get help from.   Often people ask ‘should I see a Podiatrist or a Chiropodist?’ and ‘what is the difference between them?’  After 14 years of practice we can safely say that this is the most common question we get asked.

 The short answer is that there is no difference between them. The term Podiatrist and Chiropodist are legally protected and everyone using these titles has had the same training and should be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).   Most countries no longer use the term ‘chiropodist’ which originally means to treat hands and feet, these days we tend to just focus on feet so we tend not to use the “chiro” prefix and retain the “pod” which means feet. Hence a chiropractor uses their hands to treat. Podiatrist is simply a more modern and accurate name.

We opt to use the term Podiatrist as all our Podiatrists hold BSc (Hons) Podiatry or Podiatric Medicine degrees and are adept at dealing with many foot pathologies including verrucaes, ingrown toenails (including nail surgery) and biomechanical assessment for Plantar Fasciitis, Achilles Tendinopathy, Neuromas, Capsulitis and many other foot conditions.
